Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes continuous tracts of lesions predominantly in the sigmoid colon and rectum. These lesions damage the mucosa and submucosa layers of the intestines.
Sign and symptoms of ulcerative colitis include:
- Melena— diarrhea with undigested blood.
- Anemia due to blood loss.
Risks of ulcerative colitis include a high chance of malignancy, exacerbations, and remissions.
